Katie Couric talks about how she once had to turn down Larry King. Plus Ben Affleck wins another award for Argo, but it may be his last.
KATIE COURIC TURNS DOWN LARRY KING
During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Katie Couric revealed that Larry King once “lunged” at her while they were out on a date. Couric said she was 30 when she agreed to go out with King, who would have been around 53 years old. Couric said she agreed to the date, because “you learn something” with someone new. The date was definitely a learning experience for Couric, because she taught herself how to get out of a “crisis situation”. Couric said after dinner King took her back to his house, “I just could not figure out how to extricate myself from it.” Couric said that when King made his move and “lunged” at her. “I started laughing a little bit because the whole situation was like out of a bad Lifetime movie.” Couric let King down easy, “So I said, ‘Larry, you’re such an interesting, nice man, but I would like to meet someone a little closer to my age.” Crisis adverted!
BEN AFFLECK WINS AGAIN
Ben Affleck is on a winning streak! Affleck won for his directing skills again, this time at the Directors Guild of America Awards. He picked up Best Director for his film “Argo”. “I don’t think this makes me a real director, but I think it means I’m on my way,” Affleck said. Affleck’s streak will be coming to an end though, because he will not win the Academy Award for Best Director, because he’s not nominated. Only six times has the Directors Guild of America Best Director winner not also won the Academy Award for the same category.
