Tim McGraw performed a special concert on board the USS Midway, but before the stage he caught up with the Frogmen in the Morning to talk about the show, his ties to the military, and much more.

When we first heard about Tim McGraw performing on the USS Midway, we thought it was totally cool, but we weren’t the only one. “Yeah, this is pretty cool for me too”, Tim said. Tim has done plenty of shows for the military in the past, but this was special for him, because it was the first time he had ever been on an aircraft carrier. Tim said he focuses on military personnel and their families, because “there’s a lot of history with me and the military.”

We know Tim McGraw as a country super star, but that all could have changed with the flip of a coin. “I was really close to joining the Marines before I left for Nashville”, Tim told the Frogmen.

Here Tim McGraw talks about making a decision between Nashville and the Marines.

One thing’s for sure, Tim is definitely in shape to make it through boot camp. Tim has really focused on his health and exercise. “When we’re out on the road it gives us something to do,” Tim said. Tim described his intense exercise schedule which includes concert days. “I like to time it to where I’m just finishing my workout before I hit the stage.” Although Tim is all about his health he did admit to having a weakness, cheeseburgers. “I gotta have a cheeseburger once a week,” Tim said.

Speaking of Tim McGraw’s concerts, he is in the middle of his run of shows at the Venetian in Las Vegas with his wife, Faith Hill. Tim said he and Faith decided to do the Vegas shows because they could easily fly in for the first show of the weekend and fly right back home after the last show of the weekend. “Touring together is not going to be an option anymore”, because of the busy schedules of all the McGraws. Tim caught the Frogmen up on what his daughter has been doing and admitted to being a “taxi service most of the time”.

Even though Tim and Faith doing a full-blown concert tour together is out of the question, that doesn’t mean Tim can’t hit the road by himself. Tim will be bringing his “Two Lanes of Freedom” tour to the San Manuel Amphitheater June 8th along with Brantley Gilbert and Love & Theft. Tim spoke very highly of his tour mates, saying Brantley has “so much energy about him” and that Love & Theft has one of the best records on the radio right now.

Tim McGraw gives details on his upcoming tour below.

Tim McGraw’s upcoming tour is named after his brand new album that was just released on February 5th, Two Lanes of Freedom. Tim was definitely excited about his new album saying, “I feel like there’s an energy to it.” One of the tracks on his new CD has some major star power on it. “The Highway Don’t Care” features vocals by Taylor Swift and guitar playing by Keith Urban. Tim said he is a “huge Keith Urban fan” and that they had “looked for a project to do together”. As for working with Taylor Swift, Tim said she is an amazing talent. Frogman Scott tried to get the inside scoop on Tim performing the song with Taylor and Keith, but Tim didn’t admit to anything. He did however hint that the performance wouldn’t be anytime too soon, because he said they “gotta let it simmer a little bit”.

Lastly, we had to talk football with Tim. The big game was just a couple of days ago and Tim admitted to being torn between the 2 teams. He said he was attached to the Baltimore Ravens, because of his Blind Side connection, but he also felt tied to the Forty Niners, because his dad grew up in the bay area. “My head told me that San Fransisco was going to win, but my heart was with Baltimore.” Besides the game, Tim said he was really impressed by Beyonce’s halftime show.
