Blake Shelton brought Stagecoach 2015 to a dynamic close Sunday night (April 26th).
The superstar, whose popularity only increased with his role as a coach on NBC’s “The Voice,” brought out the jokes and charm (as well as the good music) during his set, which included the use of a cowboy hat (with mullet included) for some of his “early” hits, since in those days, such a hat was necessary.
He managed to toss in a jab at his co-coach on “The Voice, “Adam Levine, adding, “I hope someone got that on video. I’d like him to see that on YouTube,” before introducing his back-up singer (and duet partner on “My Eyes”) Gwen Sebastian, who’d been a contestant and part of “Team Blake” on the second season of “The Voice.” He also mentioned other “Team Blake” alums, Cassadee Pope and the Swon Brothers, who’d also performed at Stagecoach over the weekend.
Before going into his debut single (and first #1 hit), Blake joked that he now hears “Austin” on “Golden Oldies” programs (We love playing it on K-Frog for “Throwback Thursday!”).
Blake cited his “nervousness” about performing for “about a million of you”, as reason for drinking, but given the amount of alcohol consumed by the festival-goers over the weekend, excuses probably weren’t necessary.
As Blake brought the proverbial curtain down on Stagecoach 2015 with his two most popular cover songs, “Footloose” and “God Gave Me You,” the crowd left in high spirits, and anxiously looking forward to Stagecoach 2016.
