Keith Urban has been quite silent over the years about his past drug addiction, but in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Urban opened up about his painful past.
Urban talks about his insecurities, including questioning his own talent, and the struggles to “make it” as a musician in Nashville. Those insecurities led to his drugs of choice: cocaine and ecstasy.
The abuse started around 1992 when he was offered cocaine by his roommate. That moment became the beginning of his drug abuse. He also began drinking to numb the pain.
Thankfully, he found his saving grace when he married Nicole Kidman, and in 2006 she staged an intervention. Urban had already been to rehab twice, but he entered rehab for the last time after Kidman’s intervention.
Urban has maintained his sobriety now for 10 years, but told Rolling Stone he still feels guilt over the pain his addictions caused when he and Nicole were fresh into their marriage.
We for one, are so glad Keith is still here to talk about it. Read the full interview with Urban HERE.
