A little country, a little rock and a lot of dancing was the recipe for success Saturday night as Darius Rucker brought his 2016 Good For A Good Time summer concert tour to Irvine Meadows.
The weather on this particular evening provided a perfect night for family and friends to sing along in the historic amphitheater for Rucker’s final appearance.
“Since this is our last night in Irvine ever, I wanna know where all the country music fans are at!” he exclaimed.
The 50-year old Rucker pleased all ages in attendance, from playing a steady dose of Hootie and the Blowfish covers to his recent and newer Nashville hits.
One of those new hits is a song called “If I Told You,” which has Rucker playing a man that has many flaws, asking his lover to accept him.
The South Carolina native made sure to bring his #1 songs with him as well as he led a giant Orange County sing-a-long with “It Won’t Be Like This For Long,” “This” and his very first number one single “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It.”
Then there were songs that Rucker totally let loose with. One in particular was a crowd roaring mashup of Garth Brook’s “Friends In Low Places” with Blackstreet’s “No Diggity.”
Shortly following that was a performance featuring Rucker’s tour mates Dan + Shay and Michael Ray. The team got together and belted out an extremely fun rendition “Hold My Hand.”
As Rucker came back out for his encore, things got more personal as he sang the heartfelt “So I Sing.” Then, after a euphoric rendition of “Wagon Wheel,” Rucker roared out an emotional rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain.”
From top to bottom, Rucker put on a very organic show that had plenty of us relating to his real life songs. It was a show that reminded us what summer is all about. Dancing, singing and having fun underneath the Southern California stars.
