Police And Citizens Come Together On National Night Out

National Night Out is the first Tuesday in August each year. This year it falls on Tuesday, August 2nd. National Night Out is an annual campaign to help build community through a concept referred to as ‘Community Policing’.  The practice promotes partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and better places to live. National Night Out provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. Many neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other various community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel and exhibits. We talked with the Riverside Police Department to get more of an idea of what this night is all about, but the same information is available for your community.
