Ashley Furniture Closing Colton Warehouse, Lays off 840 People

Hundreds of people have lost their jobs at the Ashley Furniture HomeStore warehouse in Colton.

According to the San Bernardino Sun, this past Friday, August 26th, approximately 840 employees were laid off after being called to meetings at the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino and also the Riverside Convention Center.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the Sun reported that laid off employees were given 60 days’ notice in a statement that said that the plant would be shutting down on October 25th.

Ashley Furniture HomeStore say they plan to move the majority of their production to other plants in Wisconsin, Mississippi and North Carolina to “tap into existing capacity and increase efficiency.”

However it appears at he time that the company’s 19 Southern California retail store locations which include Los Angeles, Ventura, Riverside and San Bernardino County, along with a distribution center in Redlands, will not be affected at this time.
