14 Year-Old Girl In Critical Condition After Hit & Run At La Sierra High School

Officer Ryan Railsback, a department spokesman for Riverside police said that just after 7:15 a.m. Wednesday morning a 14-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run collision outside La Sierra High School in Riverside.

The Press Enterprise reports that Police Sgt. Erich Feimer said at the scene that the teenage girl was about 100 feet east of the school in a crosswalk when she was struck by a driver turning left onto eastbound La Sierra Avenue from Cochran Avenue.

The girl was critical condition and taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Witnesses described the driver to the officers and the police have reportedly detained someone who fit the description, Railsback said. It’s not clear whether the person detained was or is a suspect.

Counseling is being offered to La Sierra High School student who requests it, said school secretary Judith Calderon. She went on to say that the high school’s Principal Joshua Moss was at the hospital with the 14 year-old girl.
