Last year, Jennifer Nettles played the role of Avie Lee Parton, Dolly Parton‘s mother, in the made-for-TV movie about Dolly Parton’s life, Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors. And later this year, Jennifer will reprise her role as Dolly’s mother in Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.
Playing Avie Lee Parton is a vastly different role than one she played on Broadway last year, that of Roxie Hart in the musical “Chicago.”
“Yes, polar opposite for sure,” laughs Jennifer in a statement from her record label, about the different personalities. “But how fun, you know, and how beautiful that that’s really the expansive spectrum of the human experience.
“That you can go from playing a crazy role like Roxie Hart, where you know, the first time someone sees me on stage in that role, I have killed my boyfriend and blamed my husband for it! And then, you know, all the way to this beautiful, touching family story of love, and loss, and faith,” the lead singer of the duo Sugarland continues.
“It’s been a very rewarding, artistically, year, it was, for sure.”
Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love will premiere on Wednesday, November 30th at 9pm ET/PT on NBC.
