The Band Perry and Wilson Creek Winery Celebrate Family [Setlist]

It was all about family Thursday night for The Band Perry’s intimate, sold-out show at Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula, the final wine series concert of the season.

As a family-owned and operated business, Wilson Creek Winery consistently seeks ways to support charity, and with the October 20th concert from The Band Perry, the focus was on Rancho Damacitas, which supports community youth in foster care. On hand to talk about the importance of the organization was Maria, who, as a teenager, gave birth to three children, and was thisclose to being forced into prostitution to support herself. Thanks to the work of Rancho Damacitas, a now 20-year-old Maria, is attending MSJC and wants to become a doctor.

Opening the show was local favorite Scotty Mac Band, who earned new fans thanks to their covers of songs like Brooks & Dunn’s “Neon Moon” and Garth Brooks’ “Rodeo,” as well as their own originals.

The Band Perry’s set started with the Brandy Clark-penned “Better Dig Two.” Lead singer Kimberly explained that she and her two brothers, Reid and Neal, have been performing together for eighteen years now. She recalled their first concert together, in which Neil wanted to wear his Superman pajamas; Reid had a bowl hair cut, and Kimberly was still sporting braces on her teeth.

Early in the show, Kimberly invited the crowd to “have one of the funnest nights of the fall,” and the trio delivered. It may have been a “power acoustic” performance, but The Band Perry brought every bit of energy to this show as they do to their full concerts. They also embraced the energy of the audience, noting, “We’ve been told that the country crowds are always the craziest at these things!”

Their set also included a “cheating song” (“You Lie”), a tune about “making the most of every moment” (“If I Die Young”), and their current single, which Kimberly noted “K-Frog has been playing the heck out of!” (“Comeback Kid”), and Kimberly’s “own personal anthem,” Queen’s “Fat Bottom Girls.”

One of the surprises of the evening was the sudden appearance of a bride on-stage, followed by her new husband, a U.S. Marine, dressed in full dress blues for the occasion, and the explanation that the couple had chosen the winery for their wedding earlier that night, which was met by cheers of congratulations from the audience.

“Music brings us together as family,” declared Kimberly, and she could not have been more right.
