Despite a surprise rain shower, Lauren Alaina fans still came out to support the American Idol runner-up at the Brandin’ Iron in San Bernardino Sunday night (October 23rd).
Lauren’s set was concise, but full of her power-house vocals, which only improve with each performance. Her concert was packed with energy and sass, starting with her opening numbers “My Kinda People” and “Crashin’ the Boys’ Club,” expected to be on her next album, coming out next year.
At every show, Lauren invites a male audience member on stage to be her “Next Boyfriend,” while she performs her previous single of the same title. Eric from Redlands earned the honor at this show, willingly obliging Lauren’s request for him to twerk on stage.
A pleasant addition to Lauren’s setlist is one she describes as being “one of my favorite songs from last year,” a cover of “Girl Crush” from Little Big Town, an excellent showcase for the range of her dynamic vocals.
Lauren noted that one of her favorite songs that she’s recorded is “Eighteen Inches,” from her debut album Wildflower, one co-written by fellow AI alum, Carrie Underwood. She also included a verse and chorus of Carrie’s “Last Name” in a medley which was also comprised of songs from other influences, such as Reba McEntire, Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, and more.
“Road Less Traveled” is Lauren’s highest-charting single to date; the video for which was released last week. Lauren shared the incredibly personal details of suffering from an eating disorder for four years after being featured on “American Idol,” and how that experience inspired this co-write with Meghan Trainor. She encouraged her fans not to let other people’s opinions control their decisions, and reminded the audience, “We are all unique and beautiful and special in our own way,” as an introduction to her current single.
She closed the show with her second single, “Georgia Peaches,” inspiring an Electric Slide line dance from some audience members, and then stuck around for two hours after the show, signing autographs for and taking pictures with every fan who wanted one.
