Congratulations are in order for Grammy-winner Crystal Gayle who has been invited to join the Grand Ole Opry!
Crystal performed a sold-out show at the legendary Nashville venue this evening, and surprised the audience by performing her signature smash hit, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” as a duet with Opry member Carrie Underwood.
But the surprise was on Crystal after the duet, when Carrie turned to her and said, “You are an inspiration to so many of us. You are important to country music, and you are important to the Opry, which is why I was asked tonight to ask you if you would like to join our Opry family officially.”
Crystal accepted the invitation by hugging Carrie, according to a press release from Crystal’s publicist, and replied, “I have always felt like I was a member of the family and this is just so special.”
Crystal, who made her debut on the Opry nearly 50 years ago at the Ryman Auditorium, will be formally inducted into the Opry on Saturday, January 21st, by her older sister and Opry legend Loretta Lynn.
