Two Women Sue Lyft, Driver After Showing Up Drunk and Crashes

Normally you’d call a ride sharing app when you’re under the influence and can’t drive, not the other way around.

Two women in the San Fernando Valley are suing a Lyft driver and the company after their driver was allegedly drunk and driving recklessly.

“I thought I was going to die, I thought I was going to die in that car,” passenger Teri Cortines told CBS LA.

The women said that the driver made an illegal and dangerous turn through oncoming traffic that caused a severe crash.

Lisa Hite, the second passenger in the vehicle, says she even suffered a heart attack immediately following the crash.

Police later arrested their Lyft driver for being under the influence.

Lyft released a statement after the incident stating, “Safety is our top priority and we were saddened to hear about this incident. We have a strict zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy for Lyft drivers and any behavior threatening the safety of a Lyft community member is not tolerated. The driver has been permanently banned from using Lyft.”
