Franchise Tax Board Talks Taxes

We caught up with the Franchise Tax Board to get our annual update on new taxes and get some tips on get the most robust tax return. Their representative also revealed some benefits to looking at last years tax form, filing early and planning early.

We also got an update on the California version of the Earned Income Tax Credit. CalEITC is very similar to federal version but there are a few different criteria to qualify and the amount of the return. Most people are Efiling now and we got a refresher of all the benefits.

Another part of the discussion revolved around preparing your taxes yourself using one of the popular programs or having a professional tax preparer complete you return. Part of that discussion included some time talking about the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Trained volunteers prepare taxes for a wide range of eligible taxpayers and it’s free.
