Keith Urban Discusses Recording “The Fighter” with Carrie Underwood

This weekend, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood will debut their new duet, “The Fighter,” from Keith’s Grammy-nominated Ripcord album, appropriately, on the Grammys this weekend!

“Writing ‘The Fighter’ came pretty quickly,” Keith admits in a statement from his label. “I could hear most of the song already in my head on the ride to the studio that day. I was thinking about how long it’d been since I heard a song with a guy and girl actually speaking back and forth to each other.

“It comes from a very real place,” Keith continues.  “It’s a song about helping to heal and protect someone you love. It’s a song about reassurance that you’ll always be there to take the blows the world can throw.  Carrie and I had sung together before and I thought our voices blended really well – so she was unquestionably the right choice.  It was such a relief that she wanted to do it.”

“I loved the song when I first heard it and was excited to work with Keith on new music,” says Carrie.  “I had such a great time touring Australia and New Zealand with him in December, and can’t wait to perform ‘The Fighter’ on The Grammys!”
