Two Students From Santa Monica High School Dead From Mystery Illness

For the second time since October 2016, another student from Santa Monica High School has died of an unknown illness.

CBS Los Angeles reports, a statement released by Santa Monica-Malibu School District officials Sunday announced the death of 18 year-old Kelly Cano.

Kelly Cano’s mother, Sandra is a nurse at Santa Monica High, and according to her doctors believe the deadly condition is not believed to have been Norovirus.

This is the second time a student from the school has passed away from a mystery illness. The first death was when tenth-grader Vanai Jelks died on October 25, 2016, after becoming sick following a cheerleading tournament. The exact cause of death has not been determined, as of now.

Oddly enough this comes soon after the February 3rd closing of John Adams Middle School. The middle school was closed due to an outbreak of a mysterious illness that was thought to have been norovirus.

The school was reportedly cleaned and reopened a week ago.
