Deputy In Riverside Shoots & Kills Knife-Wielding Man

Wednesday afternoon in the Woodcrest neighborhood of Riverside, a deputy shot and killed a vandalism suspect who was armed with a knife.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, at about 3:49 p.m. yesterday afternoon a deputy responding to a vandalism call in the 15800 block of Wood Road came upon a male suspect.

CBS Los Angeles reports that the suspect began throwing large rocks at the deputy when he tried to make contact with the man. The sheriff’s department says both the deputy and his patrol car were hit with the rocks. The suspect pulled out a knife at some point during the confrontation and began to advance on the deputy.

The sheriff’s department said in a release, “The suspect refused verbal commands to drop the knife and a deputy involved shooting occurred.”

After the incident the man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The name of the suspect has not been released.

Per deputy policy, the deputy was placed on administrative leave and sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
