The hunt is on for a man who carjacked a vehicle at a liquor store in Hesperia Sunday evening. The carjacker used a BB gun to beat up the victim and then he ran him over as he sped away.
Reportedly the carjacking happened at the Royal Liquor store in the 15600 block of Bear Valley Road at about 7:20p.m., Sunday evening.
CBS Los Angeles reports that liquor store employee Fadi Numan said, “I heard some yelling, and when I looked outside, I saw a gun.”
The victim who was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima, told Hesperia police that as he left the liquor store and proceeded to walk to his car, the suspect came up to him and pulled out what ended up being a BB gun and started beating him with it.
According to police, the attempt by the victim to fight off the suspect was fruitless. The suspect wound up getting into the car and ran over the victims leg as he sped away. Reportedly the victim had minor injuries from the incident.
Surveillance video recorded part of the wild incident.
Store employee Fadi Numan said, “This moment when I saw the gun, I pushed the emergency button.”
Numan said that just before the carjacking attack the suspect entered the store with an odd request, “He came in and asked me if I’d sell him a single cigarette, I told him ‘no.’”
As of now, the suspect is still at large and the stolen vehicle hasn’t been recovered. Police have released surveillance photos of the suspect and he is described as being a medium build Hispanic male with a goatee and glasses. The Nissan Altima may have some rear end damage.
