Wednesday morning, June 13, a cashier at a Lake Elsinore Circle K was shot and killed in what a company official called “a senseless act of violence.”
The Press Enterprise reports that the incident is being investigated by Riverside County sheriff’s officials. They have described the incident as an assault with a deadly weapon on the street of Lakeshore Drive, where the store is located.
Diana Trent, a neighbor who lives close to the store, said she heard multiple gunshots Wednesday morning.
“I heard boom, boom, boom, boom, then he paused,” she said. “There was seven shots altogether.”
Department spokeswoman Tawny Cabral said at 5:24 a.m. Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics responded to the incident and by 6:01 a.m., paramedics had left the scene.
A Riverside County-wide alert that a shooter was on the loose was dispatched over police radios around 5:30 a.m. And as of 9 a.m. a sheriff’s spokesman reportedly would not say whether or not the assailant was still at large.
Several hours after the incident, the crime-scene investigation was still active.
