Crash On The 91 Fwy By Suspected Drunk Driver Sparks Brush Fire

Authorities arrested a man Sunday, June 18, on suspicion of driving drunk after he veered off the 91 Freeway and sparked a small brush fire after crashing into a power pole.

The Press Enterprise reports that according to Riverside Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Staley, around 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, the man lost control of his vehicle while driving on the westbound side of the 91 freeway west of La Sierra Avenue.

Battalion Chief Staley said the car crashed into a power pole at the bottom of an embankment and that caused a transformer to spark, which in turn started a brush fire on the embankment that stretched one-quarter to one-half of a mile along the freeway.

According to Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback, the driver, was transported to a hospital before he was booked on suspicion of driving drunk.
