MTV’s “Moonman” Changed To “Moon Person”

MTV is making some changes to the VMAs including the trophy and the categories.

MTV’s President Chris McCarthy announced that the 2017 VMAs would reflect a more gender free award show.

The award show’s iconic statue, the Moonman, will now be referred to as a “Moon Person”.

McCarthy said, “Why should it be a man? It could be a man, it could be a woman, it could be transgender, it could be nonconformist.”

The award show is also making some changes to categories. There will be no gendered categories (i.e. Best Female Video, Best Man Video). Instead the categories will be all encompassing like Best New Artist and Best Pop.

The VMAs will be hosted by Katy Perry on August 27th.
