Los Angeles To Host 2028 Olympics

On Monday afternoon (June 30), the city of Los Angeles was named the city host for the 2028 summer Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee awarded L.A. the 2028 games, after competing with Paris for the 2024 games.

“This is an historic day for Los Angeles, for the United States and for the Olympic and Paralympic Movements around the world,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said (via CBS LA). “Today, we take a major step toward bringing the Games back to our city for the first time in a generation and begin a new chapter in Los Angeles’ timeless Olympic story.”

CBS News has said that the city of Los Angeles has budgeted more than $5 billion to host the Games. That’s less than half of the cost for the Rio Olympics and a fraction of what Sochi spent on the 2014 winter games.
